
European Stocks Rise on Merger Deal AnnouncementsBrussels, 9 Sep (ONA) — European stocks today rose following the announcement of a number of merger deals in the region. The STOXX 600 index for all of Europe rose by 0.1 percent to 552.69 points, with the basic resources sector leading sector gains on the index by advancing 1.3 percent. The French CAC 40 rose 0.2 percent in early trading, while longer‑dated bonds remained unchanged. Shares of Anglo American jumped 4.7 percent after the mining company said it had agreed to merge with Canada’s Teck Resources in a USD 50 billion deal to form a newly merged company named Anglo Teck. In Italy, shares of Monte dei Paschi di Siena rose 3.8 percent after data showed it had acquired 62 percent of the shares of Mediobanca. Shares of Mediobanca rose 3.7 percent.— Ends/Khalid
