New York, Sept 9 (Petra) – The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child expressed deep concern Tuesday over the catastrophic impact of ongoing hostilities in Gaza on children.
On the eve of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, the committee called for decisive action by all states, particularly Israel as the occupying power.
The committee highlighted the severe deprivation of basic survival necessities for Gaza’s children, who are enduring extreme malnutrition, hunger, and famine conditions.
Confirmed reports indicate alarming levels of killing, maiming, and widespread violence against children. Countless children have lost parents, siblings, and extended family members, leaving them in profound grief and psychological trauma with long-term effects.
The committee emphasized the urgent need for Israel to immediately stop obstructing humanitarian aid, ensure unrestricted, sustained, and safe access to assistance for Gaza’s population, and take measures to protect children from further harm while respecting their inherent rights and dignity.
