Amman, Sept. 17 (Petra)– United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed Jordanian diplomat Eihab Omaish as Deputy Assistant Secretary-General for Counter-terrorism and Director of Policy at UN headquarters in New York, the first Arab named to the senior UN post.
Omaish previously served as Head of the Rule of Law Unit in the Office of the Secretary-General. He also rose through the ranks at the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs to the position of Minister Plenipotentiary, and was Deputy Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations.
