New York, Sept. 23 (Petra) – The UN Security Council held a ministerial-level session on Palestine on Tuesday, during which it received a briefing from UN Secretary-General Ant?nio Guterres.
Guterres welcomed the recognition of the State of Palestine by more countries, including permanent Council members France and the United Kingdom, stressing that “this is the clearest path toward a two-state solution,” envisioning Israel and an independent, sovereign, democratic, and viable Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security.
He added, “We must seize this momentum,” emphasizing that Gaza’s so-called “next day” must be grounded in international law, reject all forms of ethnic cleansing, and have a clear political horizon toward a viable two-state solution.
