24th Amman International Book Fair kicks off

Amman, Sep.25 (Petra) – Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, Minister of Culture, Mustafa Rawashdeh, on Thursday inaugurated the 24th Amman International Book Fair 2025, in the presence of Omani Minister of Information Dr. Abdullah Al-Harrasi.

The fair, which will continue through October 4, is organized by the Jordanian Publishers Association (JPA) at Jordan International Exhibition Center – Mecca Mall, with the participation of 400 publishing houses from 22 Arab and foreign countries.

The event bears the slogan: “Jerusalem, the Capital of Palestine,” reflecting Jerusalem’s significance at the pan-Arab level and affirming its Arab identity.

This choice also aligns with Jordan’s positions, reiterating the Hashemite Custodianship over the city’s Islamic and Christian sanctities.

Talking at the opening ceremony, Rawashdeh stated Sultanate of Oman is the guest of honor at this year’s edition due to its “rich documentary and historical record and heritage treasures in various sciences and knowledge, which have enriched Arabic content in both science and knowledge.”

The minister added that Oman’s participation constitutes an “important qualitative addition, and represents a source of pride for Jordan, and a significant milestone in the cultural relations with Oman.”

The event is one of the key creative cultural industries, based on His Majesty King Abdullah II’s visions, which help formulate Jordan’s work programs to strengthen cultural economies and transition to the digital space and the language of the age, and balance heritage with modernity, he pointed out.

Noting Hashemite values ??of tolerance, partnership, and diversity, he said this vision provides cooperation means with institutions and organizations, including our strategic partner, Jordanian Publishers Association.

In his speech, Omani Ambassador to Jordan, Sheikh Fahad Al-Ajili, conveyed greetings of Oman’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, His Highness Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, wishing success to the fair to achieve its desired goals.

The envoy also expressed his pride in the Kingdom’s invitation to Sultanate of Oman to be the guest of honor at 2025 edition.

The fair enjoys a “prestigious” position among Arab and international book exhibitions, adding that the fair is “a key cultural and civilizational forum due to its good reputation and distinguished cultural and intellectual activity,” he said.

The fair, he noted, became nexus of the world’s attention, attracting prominent international and Arab publishing houses, and hosting prominent writers, authors and thinkers from around the world.

The diplomat said the Sultanate’s participation also reflects “depth of historic” bilateral ties.
