Amman, Sep.28 (Petra) – The Joint Jordanian-Syrian Water Platform was launched on Sunday during the closing ceremony of the five-day Jordanian-Syrian technical workshop on integrated water resources management in Amman, which saw participation of a delegation from Syrian Ministry of Energy and Water Resources.
According to a statement issued by Ministry of Water, the two sides discussed several issues on sustainable water resource management during the workshop dialogues.
Secretary-General of Jordan Valley Authority (JVA), Hisham Haisa, called for expediting implementation of joint programs, including adaptation to climate change, protection of water resources, and raising water awareness among communities.
In turn, Deputy Director of Syrian General Directorate of Water, Taher Omar, expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and constructive cooperation, praising Jordan’s “competence in managing water resources and addressing water scarcity.”
Concluding the event, the two sides stressed the importance of maintaining mutual coordination and activating the joint platform as a “strategic” tool for exchanging information and strengthening bilateral efforts to address common water challenges.
