Cairo, September 28 (Petra) – The Arab Parliament welcomed San Marino’s recognition of the State of Palestine as a “historic and significant” step toward advancing international recognition of Palestinians’ right to statehood.
In a statement issued Sunday, the Parliament said the decision reflects solidarity with the Palestinian people and their legitimate struggle for freedom and independence.
The Arab Parliament praised Spain’s recent initiative to form an international coalition to provide financial support to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), amid continued Israeli withholding of clearance revenues due to the Authority.
The Parliament said the initiative represents a strategic effort to bolster the resilience of Palestinian institutions and create an international framework of support for the Palestinian people in their pursuit of justice, in accordance with international law and UN resolutions.
Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Yamahi urged the international community to build on the momentum of supporting a Palestinian state by accelerating comprehensive recognition of the State of Palestine.
He called on European countries that have not yet recognised Palestine to follow suit, adding that a recognition would support efforts to end the Israeli occupation, halt Israeli crimes against Palestinians and help realise a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.
