Jordan Signs €4.5M Contract for Water Loss Reduction in Mafraq

Amman, Oct. 5 (Petra) – Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Saud signed on Sunday a consultancy services agreement, financed by the German Development Bank (KfW), worth €4.5 million for preparing tender documents and supervising the implementation of water loss reduction projects in Mafraq in partnership with the private sector.

According to a ministry statement, Abu Saud said the project is a high-priority government initiative to improve service delivery, realize the Economic Modernization Vision, and advance Jordan’s 2023–2040 National Water Strategy by improving water management efficiency, reducing wastage, and ensuring service sustainability.

The contracted firm Engicon will develop strategy and implementation plans, restructure networks, rehabilitate and replace pipelines, install domestic and main meters, introduce digital control systems, deploy modern leak detection equipment, supervise performance to ensure environmental, social, and health standards, and train staff. The project will strengthen Yarmouk Water Company’s technical capacity and network efficiency.

Abu Saud praised Jordan-European cooperation and the KfW’s role in securing funding, expressing the government’s gratitude for the sustained support.
