Amman, Oct. 5 (Petra) – The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has completed the third phase “Al-Mahatta Beautification” of the Al-Jaish Street development works, extending 700 meters, as part of the National Strategic Project for Developing Amman’s Neighborhoods.
Mohammad Abu Zeitoun, Executive Director of the Amman Neighborhood Development and Tourist Routes Project, said the third phase aimed to enhance traffic flow along Al-Jaish Street by adding a fourth lane and upgrading infrastructure, including wastewater and stormwater drainage lines. The project also involved removing the deteriorating longitudinal park, which posed safety risks, and replacing it with aesthetically designed precast walls in harmony with the area’s character.
He added that the works carried out by the municipality included creating new model fences and sidewalks, installing modern lighting systems, setting up advertising or electronic billboards, and establishing new urban spaces and green areas with trees and pedestrian bridges.
Abu Zeitoun emphasized that the Amman Neighborhood Development Project is a national strategic initiative aimed at revitalizing the Al-Mahatta area through multiple phases. Three phases have been completed so far, including the construction of a park and playground and the expansion and traffic improvement of Rfifan Al-Majali Street, extending 500 meters opposite Al-Mahatta Bridge.
The upcoming fourth and fifth phases will focus on Al-Jaish Upper Street and Rfifan Al-Majali Street, removing all violations encroaching on the planned road width, reorganizing and regulating traffic in the area, and serving the local community, as the site represents one of Amman’s main gateways.
The third phase of the Al-Mahatta Project was implemented by the Greater Amman Municipality in cooperation with a specialized consulting firm.
