Signs National Addressing Project Agreements to Install Unified Street Signage
Nationwide

Muscat,
7 Oct (ONA) — The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has signed 11
agreements for the installation of standardized street and building signage as
part of Oman’s National Addressing Project, with a total investment exceeding RO
1.3 million. The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the Home and
Building Expo, focusing on urban development and architecture.

These
agreements will implement a unified signage system across all governorates to
improve location identification and accessibility while supporting digital
transformation and geographic information services (GIS) infrastructure
nationwide.

Dr.
Mohammed bin Ali Al Mutawa, Undersecretary for Urban Planning at the Ministry
of Housing and Urban Planning, signed the agreements on behalf of the ministry.

Eng.
Haitham bin Said Al Badi, Director of the National Addressing Project, stated
that these agreements represent a significant step in establishing a consistent
addressing framework throughout Oman. He emphasized that the project will
enhance integration between spatial infrastructure and the digital
transformation of government services.

“The
project constitutes a strategic initiative to implement a standardized national
system for geographic naming and addressing,” Al Badi explained.
“This will significantly improve location identification and accessibility
while boosting the efficiency of geographic information services across all
governorates.”

He
further noted that the unified system serves as a fundamental enabler for smart
service development and urban quality of life improvements. The project will
also enhance emergency response capabilities for civil defense and ambulance
services, streamline delivery and postal operations, and update digital maps
through integration with national spatial platforms.

Eng.
Haitham highlighted that these agreements demonstrate the ministry’s commitment
to aligning technical initiatives with major national platforms that engage
both public and private sector development partners. He affirmed that the
National Addressing Project represents a qualitative advancement in spatial
data management, providing valuable support for decision-makers, investors, and
