Zarqa, Oct. 14 (Petra) – Head of the New Beren Municipality Committee in Zarqa Governorate, Ahmad Faraheed, said on Tuesday that the municipality plans to establish a cable car project in the area to promote local development and tourism activity.
Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Faraheed said the municipality aims to play a greater role in developing the local community by marketing the area as a tourist destination to attract investment. He noted that the Beren Cable Car project is still under study and evaluation, and is intended to serve all surrounding governorates.
He added that, if implemented, the cable car route would extend about 1.5 kilometers each way, starting from Prince Hashem Park toward the northern side of the area.
The route, he said, would include an elevated section offering passengers a panoramic view overlooking several nearby governorates. The project, he added, would play a major role in attracting investment and fostering local community development.
Faraheed said the municipality organized a field visit to the proposed site on Tuesday, with the participation of Zarqa Governorate Council Chairman Jamal Abu Eid and Noura Qazza, Head of the Department of Architecture Engineering at Zarqa University.
Abu Eid said that the Engineers Association in Zarqa seeks to support projects that contribute to provincial development, create engineering job opportunities, and strengthen public-private partnerships, adding that the cable car project aligns with the Economic Modernization Vision and the National Tourism Strategy.
Qaza’a expressed the university’s readiness to provide technical and advisory support through its academic and student expertise to enhance innovation in design and planning.
The project comes as part of the municipality’s broader efforts to enhance local development. Previously, the municipality, in cooperation with the International Labour Organization, implemented the Linear Park project at the entrance of Beren, which has since become a popular destination for visitors.
