New York, Nov. 20 (Petra) — The United Nations General Assembly’s Fourth Committee, responsible for Special Political Issues and Decolonization, adopted several key resolutions late Wednesday under Agenda Item 50, which addresses Israeli practices and settlement activities affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people and other Arabs in the occupied territories.

A resolution submitted by Jordan, along with a group of member states, received broad support with 87 countries voting in favor, 17 opposing, and 62 abstaining.

Under the same agenda item, the Committee approved another resolution on Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan. The measure passed with the backing of 146 countries, including Jordan, while 11 countries voted against and 14 abstained.

A third resolution concerning the Occupied Syrian Golan was also adopted with similar support: 146 votes in favor, including Jordan, 6 against, and 18 abstentions.

Earlier sessions saw the Committee endorse several resolutions under Agenda Item 49, which focuses on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). These resolutions renewed UNRWA’s mandate until June 30, 2029, maintaining consistency with Article 11 of UN General Assembly Resolution 194 (III) of 1948, which calls for the return of refugees to their homes.

The newly adopted resolution also requested the UN Conciliation Commission for Palestine to continue its efforts to implement Article 11 and to submit a progress report by September 2026.

Additionally, the Committee approved a resolution on UNRWA operations with 144 votes in favor, including Jordan, 11 against, and 16 abstentions. Another resolution on the properties and revenues of Palestine refugees passed with 154 votes in favor, 10 against, and 8 abstentions.
