Oman Participates in Workshop
on System of National Register, Vital Statistics in Iraq
Baghdad, 23 Nov 2025 (ONA) — The
Sultanate of Oman is taking part in a two-day workshop held in Baghdad,
Republic of Iraq, to unify visions and efforts about the system of national
register and vital statistics.
The workshop takes the theme “Your
Document, Your Identity, Your Future”.
Dr. Khalifa Abdullah Al Barwani,
Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Statistics and Information
(NCSI), presented a working paper in which he reviewed the Sultanate of Oman’s
experience in developing the national population register and systems of civil
registration and vital statistics.
These systems, he said, emerge as leading
regional experiences in the field of digital integration and building of reliable
national databases.
The Sultanate of Oman’s
participation in the workshop stems from its keenness to enhance regional
cooperation and exchange experiences in the fields of statistics and digitization.
It contributes to efforts aimed at developing national methodologies for vital
statistics and building advanced data systems in a manner that improves government
services and raises the efficiency of development planning.
The workshop is organized by the
United Nations Population Fund in cooperation with the departments concerned in
Iraq.
The workshop seeks to explore successful
international experiences in developing civil registration systems, in addition
to discussing the best practices in institutional coordination, data automation
and the use of the same to support decision-making.
The workshop also looks into
mechanisms for building a comprehensive and unified national register that
integrates sectoral databases, enhances data protection, secures the privacy of
citizens and prepares for a new stage of digital transition in Iraq.— Ends/Bishara/AH
