Amman, Nov. 26 (Petra) Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives Ibrahim Al-Sarayrah underscored the pivotal role played by military retirees in maintaining the Kingdom’s security and stability.

During a meeting with head of the National Committee for Ex-Military Officers, retired Brig. Gen. Ahmad Al-Raggad, and several committee members, Al-Sarayrah said the issue of military retirees receives special attention from House Speaker Mazen Al-Qadi.

He highlighted the importance of the security services in protecting national assets and ensuring citizens’ safety, particularly amid heightened regional tensions. He praised recent efforts by security agencies in uncovering a terrorist plot targeting Jordan and their continued work to reinforce national security and stability.

Al-Sarayrah described military retirees as the primary reserve of the armed forces, which have sacrificed greatly in defending the country. Addressing the retirees, he said they had stood on the front lines “in fields of honor,” carrying their arms with resolve, meeting challenges with determination and sacrifice, and writing honorable chapters in Jordan’s history through their patience, steadfastness, integrity, discipline, and loyalty to the nation and its leadership.

He stressed that reducing unemployment will only be achieved by attracting investments to the Kingdom, noting that all observations and proposals raised by retirees have been documented and will be followed up.

For her part, Assistant Speaker Hala Al-Jarrah said all Jordanians stand united behind the Hashemite leadership, pointing to His Majesty King Abdullah II’s efforts to draw investments, particularly during his recent tour of Asia. She also commended military retirees for their role in safeguarding the Kingdom’s security and stability.

Retired Brig. Gen. Ahmad Al-Raggad said the National Committee for Ex-Military Officers, established in 2001, enjoys direct royal attention, noting the importance of the retirees’ accumulated expertise in supporting security agencies.

Committee members outlined their main duties, citing the erosion of salaries and the rise in inflation over the past 15 years. They called for improving the wages of serving and retired military personnel and urged linking former military retirees’ pensions to inflation rates to ensure a dignified standard of living for them and their families.
