Water theft from main pipeline detected in Northern Jordan Valley

Northern Jordan Valley, Dec 3 (Petra) – The Ministry of Water and Irrigation/Water Authority on Wednesday detected assaults on a 4-inch main pipeline in the Northern Jordan Valley.

Acting in cooperation with Yarmouk Water Company, Water Authority crews seized two lines that were illegally connected to farms and homes, part of an ongoing crackdown against water theft across the Kingdom, the ministry said in a statement.

The violations were ended and official reports on the incidents will be sent to relevant authorities for legal action, it said, vowing to carry out similar campaigns across the Kingdom in cooperation with relevant agencies.

The ministry reminded that the amended Water Law stipulates imprisonment for encroachment on national water resources to stiffer penalties of several years in prison and JD10,000 fines.
