Secretary-General of National Investment Authority: “Made in River Nile” Forum Boosts Self-Reliance, National Economy

Al-Damir, Jan. 16, 2026 (SUNA) – Secretary-General of the National Investment Authority Ahlam Madani Mahdi said the “Made in River Nile State” forum, scheduled for late January, represents a strategic step toward strengthening the national economy and advancing self-reliance.In a statement to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), Mahdi praised the River Nile State Ministry of Investment for its sustained efforts to attract investors and harness the state’s vast potential. She said the forum aims to localize industry, shift the state from a raw-material producer to an industrial hub, and maximize returns from local products such as cement, marble, and agricultural crops.Ahlam Mahdi described the forum as a platform for showcasing investment opportunities, incentives, and facilitations, while creating jobs, reducing imports, and promoting high-quality local alternatives. She highlighted River Nile State’s advantages in cement and construction industries, mining, agriculture and livestock, and the development of industrial cities and free zones.She reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to implementing the investment law, streamlining procedures through the Single-Window system, and attracting foreign capital, adding that the forum will foster idea exchange and healthy competition. Mahdi noted that expanding Authority branches across states supports balanced development, with River Nile State benefiting significantly due to its comparative advantages.Meanwhile, River Nile State Minister of Investment, Mining, Quarries, and Industry Osman Abdel-Rahim Omara said preparations for the forum are progressing well, with more than 320 factories set to participate. He confirmed the completion of working papers focused on industrial development and sustainability, and the finalization of invitations to federal officials, walis, governors, embassies, and economic attachés.Omara said the forum will be held on January 26 at Atbara Land Port for five days, with full participation from the state’s factories, expressing confidence in its timely and successful delivery.FA/BH
