Port Sudan, Jan. 20, 2026 (SUNA) – The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Environment and Natural Resources, Suleiman Al-Bouni Suleiman, met on Tuesday at his office in Port Sudan with Head of the National Border Commission Lt. Gen. Engineer Al-Amin Mohamed Banga, in the presence of the Commission’s Secretary-General Lt. Gen. Bashir Mekki Al-Bahi, to discuss shared environmental issues.During the meeting, Suleiman Al-Bouni emphasized that the Council’s role is to coordinate between government institutions and other entities concerned with the environment, as all are partners in environmental work. He outlined plans to convene an environmental conference bringing together all relevant stakeholders, and to establish a platform that unites institutions, organizations, and participants engaged in environmental initiatives. He also stressed the Council’s crucial role in assessing the environmental impact of development projects.For his part, Lt. Gen. Engineer Al-Amin Mohamed Banga noted that a multi-entity committee is working on a project to demarcate the baseline and develop a maritime database, which began last year. He added that the legal committee affiliated with the Supreme Committee has clarified the roles and responsibilities of various institutions by harmonizing existing laws and establishing new ones, including the Coast Guard, Maritime Authority, and Marine Environment legislation.Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation in the public interest.FA/BH
