Khartoum, January 22, 2026 (SUNA) – The Khartoum State Security Affairs Coordination Committee, in its meeting today chaired by the Wali Ahmed Othman Hamza, reviewed comprehensive aspects of the state’s security plan.The criminal security report highlighted a decline in crime rates attributed to strengthened security deployments and the implementation of preventive measures. Joint operations led to the seizure of significant quantities of drugs. The committee underscored the need to intensify outreach on the dangers of drugs by organizing exhibitions and events for students, youth, and dormitory communities, alongside producing specialized awareness programs. It also called for the swift reformation of the Drug Control Council to devise focused plans and initiatives to address the issue.The meeting commended the Traffic Police and Military Police for campaigns aimed at controlling vehicles violating regulations and enforcing the decision of the Sovereignty Council Chairman to stop any vehicle without license plates, noting a substantial reduction in such violations. The committee praised the outcomes of joint security sweeps conducted by all regular agencies, which resulted in the seizure of 1,850 various contraband items, including electrical appliances, weapons, and drugs, and the arrest of 396 suspects. Additionally, the security cell executed 45 operations leading to the arrest of 64 suspects along with weapons and vehicles, while the State Security Apparatus apprehended several collaborators.The committee urged citizens to comply with the curfew and instructed security agencies to strictly enforce the curfew decision. It also resolved to improve the management of border crossings and intensify efforts to control violations.FA/BH
