Port Sudan, Jan. 23, 2026 (SUNA) – Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, on Friday opened the 12th International Scientific Conference of the Sudanese Orthopaedic Surgeons Association in Port Sudan, under the patronage of the Wali of Red Sea State, Lt. Gen. Mustafa Mohamed Noor, with the participation of state health ministers and senior medical officials.The minister said the conference, held at a critical time for the country, reflects the resilience of Sudan’s health professionals and their commitment to sustaining medical services despite war-related challenges. He described the event as a key step in rebuilding and developing the health sector, particularly orthopaedic services.Dr. Ibrahim praised the association and health workers for providing free medical care across several states, paid tribute to the Sudanese Armed Forces and health personnel, and commended Red Sea State authorities and supporting pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies for backing the conference.He added that the conference serves as a platform for shaping strategies to redistribute specialised health services, strengthen training and research, and establish referral centres to localise treatment and ensure equitable access nationwide.For his part, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Association President Dr. Mahmoud Al-Badri said the conference sends a clear message that scientific and medical work in Sudan continues despite challenges, highlighting its role in exchanging expertise and improving orthopaedic care.BH/BHBottom of Form
