Golf
in Oman: Sustained Growth, Youth Talent Development
Muscat,
27 Jan 2026 (ONA) — Golf in the Sultanate of Oman is experiencing significant
growth in the identification and refinement of national talent, particularly
among youth categories. This advancement stems from the ongoing efforts of Oman
Golf Association to broaden the sport’s participant base and enhance its
competitiveness at regional and continental levels.
Recently,
a number of Omani players have distinguished themselves in Gulf and Arab
tournaments, with various national age-group teams achieving notable results.
These accomplishments include securing medals in both team and individual
events at tournaments held by the GCC, underscoring the technical progress of
the sport within the Sultanate of Oman.
Fayiz
Mohammed Riyadh, Deputy Chairman of Oman Golf Association, said to Oman News
Agency: “The association places a high priority on junior development
programs by organizing regular training camps and facilitating player
participation in external tournaments to gain competitive experience. This is
complemented by hosting regional championships that provide opportunities for
direct competition with diverse playing styles.”
He
added: “Modern facilities, including accredited golf courses and indoor
training centers, have also played a key role in establishing an ideal
year-round training environment.”
He
explained that Omani players have demonstrated their capabilities in Gulf
competitions across various age categories, achieving positive outcomes that
have reinforced the technical staff’s confidence in their ability to represent
Oman in forthcoming events. He also highlighted a steady increase in girls’
participation in golf tournaments, as part of strategic plans to expand women’s
involvement in the sport and nurture female talent.
For
his part, Taimour Ghalib Al Busaidi, a member of the National Junior Golf Team,
affirmed in a statement to Oman News Agency that the advanced placements and
medals earned by the age-group teams in recent periods reflect the substantial
efforts underway to develop national talent. He indicated that winning gold,
silver, and bronze medals in Gulf championships demonstrates the advanced
technical level attained by both male and female players in Oman and the wider
Gulf region.
He
noted that the achievement of Oman U-13 team in securing top positions at the
Gulf Championship for Girls and Age Groups represents a major milestone in the
development of golf in Oman, particularly as the championship was hosted by the
Sultanate of Oman. This success, he stated, reflects regional confidence in the
organizational and technical capacities of Oman Golf Association.
On
his turn, Yousef Azzan Al Rumhi, a member of the National Golf Team, stated
that the rising standards achieved by the national teams in various tournaments
serve as a powerful incentive to continue development initiatives. He pointed
out that the results attained mirror the advanced technical proficiency
achieved by Omani golfers.
He
explained that his own accomplishment of winning a gold medal in the individual
category, alongside the U-13 national team’s silver medal in the Gulf Golf
Championship for Girls and Age Groups, provides strong motivation to persist in
delivering high-level performances. He affirmed that the objective remains
continuous development and building a successful career in the sport of golf.
