Agricultural Bank Allocates SDG 105 billion to Finance Wheat and Cotton Cultivation Next Season

Madani, Jan. 27, 2026 (SUNA) – The Wali of Al-Gezira State, Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Kheir, called on the Agricultural Bank of Sudan to expand its financing for the horticulture sector and Al-Gezira Scheme, underscoring the sector’s central role in driving economic recovery.The call came during a meeting at his office with a delegation from the Agricultural Bank, headed by its General Manager, Salah Mohamed Abdulrahim.The Wali stressed the need to maximize the value added of agricultural production, promote small industries, and develop a scientific, forward-looking vision to revive the Al-Gezira Scheme. He also called for integrating livestock into the agricultural cycle, alongside adherence to modern technologies, technical and engineering guidance, and standardized specifications. For his part, the General Manager of the Agricultural Bank affirmed that agricultural success in Al-Gezira represents success for all of Sudan. He announced the allocation of 105 billion Sudanese pounds (SDG) to finance wheat and cotton cultivation for the upcoming season, in addition to funding small-scale projects and establishing grain silos in the state. He further confirmed the bank’s readiness to meet Al-Gezira’s needs through its 14 branches.Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance, Economy, and Labor, Atif Mohamed Ibrahim Abu Shawk, announced his ministry’s intention to expand partnerships with the Agricultural Bank to support production and economic growth.The Director General and Acting Minister of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources, Dr. Arafa Mahmoud, reaffirmed the Agricultural Bank’s longstanding support for producers and called for raising the financing ceiling to meet expanding production requirements.The Director of Al-Gezira Microfinance Foundation, Adlan Abdulrahim, announced the financing of solar energy systems along the Nile strip and youth projects. AS/BH
