African Development Bank Allocates $70 Million to Support Sudan’s Health Sector

Port Sudan, Jan. 27, 2026 (SUNA) – The Federal Minister of Health, Professor Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, held a special meeting today in Port Sudan with Dr. Siddig Al-Obied, Executive Director on the Board of the African Development Bank (AfDB), to discuss support for Sudan’s health sector.Dr. El-Beed confirmed that the African Development Bank has allocated $70 million to strengthen and enhance health services in Sudan in the next phase of development.Minister Ibrahim said the funding will be used to implement integrated health projects aimed at ensuring sustainability, meeting citizens’ needs, and building human capacities. He expressed gratitude to the Bank’s management for the commitment and to the Ministry of Finance for coordinating and facilitating funding channels.The meeting reviewed Sudan’s current health situation and future plans, the Ministry’s experience in collaborating with partners and donors, and the transition from emergency humanitarian initiatives to long-term developmental programmes. Discussions also focused on regional projects targeting public health, epidemic control, and specialized medical services.Attendees included the Director-General of Emergency and Epidemic Control, the Director-General of International Health, and a representative from the Ministry of Finance, who emphasized the importance of coordination with partners to maximize the impact of available funding.AS/BH
