Kuwait, Jan. 28, 2026 (SUNA) – Sudan participated in the 24th meeting of the Arab Blood Transfusion Services Authority and the proceedings of the 15th Arab Conference of Transfusion Medicine, held in the State of Kuwait from January 18 to 21, 2026.The event was organized by the Secretariat-General of the League of Arab States in cooperation with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health and the Arab Blood Transfusion Services Authority. It was attended by the Kuwaiti Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi, alongside experts and specialists in blood transfusion services from Arab and foreign countries.The Director of the National Administration for Blood Transfusion Services, Dr. Issam-Eddin Hassan Ali, said in a press statement that the meeting reviewed the current status of blood transfusion service centres in both Sudan and the Syrian Arab Republic.He explained that the meeting endorsed the paper submitted by Sudan on blood transfusion services in the country in the aftermath of the war waged by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. Consensus was also reached on recommendations related to training Sudanese cadres in the field of blood transfusion.Dr. Issam-Eddin added that he held discussions with the head of the Arab Blood Transfusion Services Authority on mechanisms for implementing the meeting’s recommendation, noting that approval was granted for training Sudanese cadres in the State of Kuwait.He further stated that the 24th meeting focused on enhancing regional cooperation to achieve self-sufficiency in blood supply, developing hemovigilance programmes, supporting training, activating mechanisms for the exchange of blood units among Arab countries, and identifying training needs to raise the efficiency of personnel working in blood transfusion services.The meeting also aimed to strengthen efforts towards self-sufficiency in blood and its derivatives, as well as the adoption of advanced technologies in testing and processing.FA/BH
