Health Ministry Launches Process for Global Fund’s Eighth Grant Cycle

Port Sudan, Jan. 28, 2026 (SUNA) – Federal Ministry of Health on Tuesday launched the official process to prepare the funding request for the Global Fund’s Eighth Grant Cycle (GC8) to combat malaria, HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis, during an expanded coordination meeting of specialized technical committees.Minister of Health and Chair of the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) Professor Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim participated in the meeting via teleconference, describing the move as a cornerstone for securing the financial and technical resources needed to address major health challenges. He said the upcoming grant aims to strengthen national efforts against the three diseases while supporting resilient and sustainable health systems (RSSH) to deliver integrated services to citizens.The meeting was attended by Deputy Operations Directors from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UNICEF, members of the Global Fund’s Sudan desk in Geneva, and senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Health.Participants discussed strategic funding priorities, focusing on updating national strategies in line with global standards, strengthening health systems, health information systems, and medical supply management. The Global Fund team in Geneva presented a detailed overview of GC8 technical requirements, commending the capacity of Sudanese health cadres to coordinate and perform under exceptional circumstances.The initiative seeks to align government bodies, donors, and international partners to produce a strong national proposal that meets citizens’ needs and sustains disease control efforts and life-saving medicines across Sudan.BH/BHBottom of Form
