New Delhi, Jan. 29, 2026 (SUNA) – Minister of Energy Engineer Al-Mu’tassim Ibrahim Ahmed met at the conclusion of his visit to India with a group of Indian companies, including Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Oswal, and Jain.He discussed with BHEL Director of International Cooperation Mr. Piyush Agrawal the company’s projects in Sudan, notably the Um Dabakir power station and the supply of transformers for the Singa–Al-Hawata–Al-Gadarif transmission line, as well as the outstanding debt owed by the Government of Sudan from the Um Dabakir project.The meeting explored cooperation in hydroelectric generation projects, rehabilitation of Um Dabakir station to restore its 500-megawatt capacity, supply of transformers, and integrated training for electricity sector workers at BHEL’s Training Centre in Noida and its factories in India.The Minister affirmed his ministry’s commitment to scheduling debt repayment through clear mechanisms, emphasizing that financial obligations should not hinder cooperation.Mr. Agrawal confirmed BHEL’s continued commitment to joint projects and announced plans to visit Sudan at the end of February. BHEL is among India’s largest government companies, specializing in heavy electrical equipment, thermal and hydro generation, transformers, and solar power.The Minister also met with Oswal Cables Company Executive Director Mr. Avinash Prasad, discussing cooperation in cable manufacturing and supply, and with Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd., confirming the settlement of the company’s remaining debts and exploring future collaboration.AS/BH
