Wolves Close in on Loan Deal for
Marseille Midfielder Angel Gomes

London, 1 Feb 2026 (ONA) — Wolverhampton
Wanderers are nearing the completion of a loan agreement to sign Angel Gomes
from Marseille, sources confirm.

Discussions have progressed to an
advanced stage between the clubs, centered on an initial loan arrangement that
will include an option for a permanent transfer. The proposed move would mark a
return to the English Premier League (EPL) for the 25-year-old England
midfielder, who began his career at Manchester United.

Gomes moved to Marseille from Lille
last summer but has seen his playing time diminish, failing to start a Ligue 1
match since November. Consequently, the French club has sanctioned a departure
during this transfer window. In total, he has made 20 appearances across all
competitions this season, scoring four goals, but was not named in the starting
lineup for any UEFA Champions League fixtures.

A product of the Manchester United
academy, Gomes made ten senior appearances for the club. His debut at 16 years
and 263 days—coming on as a substitute for Wayne Rooney—made him the youngest
player to represent the club since the legendary Duncan Edwards in 1953.

Capped four times by England under
former caretaker manager Lee Carsley, Gomes has not featured internationally
since October 2024. The loan move to Molineux is viewed as a critical
opportunity for him to secure regular first-team football and reignite his
career.
