Eastern Sudanese Communities Mandate Al-Burhan to Lead Sudan in Post-War Phase

Kassala, Feb. 1, 2026 (SUNA) – The Conference for Unifying the People of Eastern Sudan, held in Kassala State on January 31 and February 1 under the initiative of the Nazir (Chieftain) of the Hadandawa tribe, Mohamed Ahmed Al-Amin Tirik, concluded with the issuance of its final recommendations.The closing session, held in Aroma city, the capital of Al-Gash locality, was attended by Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Dr. Nuwara Abu Mohamed Tahir, Acting Wali of Kassala State Major General (Ret) Al-Sadiq Mohamed Al-Azraq, Governor of Darfur Region Arko Minawi, the Commissioner of the National Peace Commission, and various official and popular leaders from native administrations across the eastern states.The conference mandated President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, to lead Sudan in the post-war period. It also renewed confidence in the Wali of Kassala to continue steering the state.During the session, the TSC Member received a mandate document detailing the rationale for the authorisation. It highlighted Al-Burhan’s dedication to Sudan’s unity, commitment to national cohesion, rejection of fragmentation and division, and steadfast support for a unified Sudan and sovereign decision-making. The document also underscored his prudent management of foreign affairs, efforts to preserve Sudan’s regional and international standing, and achievements in ensuring security, stability, and the dignity of the state.The mandate also authorized Al-Burhan to represent Sudan in all international and regional forums in a manner safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and supreme interests, and to negotiate on behalf of eastern Sudanese communities regarding political, economic, and social issues with a strong national discourse reflecting the region’s weight and history. Held under the slogan “With Unity, Nations are Built – Unity is Our Only Choice,” the conference brought together native administrations, local entities, political actors, civil society organizations, and armed movements.During the event, the Charter for the Unity of the People of Eastern Sudan was initially signed, alongside reaffirming their support for the Armed Forces.AS/BH
