Khartoum, Feb. 3, 2026 (SUNA) – Minister of Culture, Information, Tourism and Antiquities Khalid Al-Eisir revealed that losses incurred by the General Radio and Television Authority and the Sudanese Radio and Television Broadcasting Corporation, at the federal level alone, as a result of crimes committed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, have surpassed $26 million in equipment and machinery.Speaking in an interview with Sudan TV’s programme “Sudan Tonight” on Tuesday, Al-Eisir clarified that the two entities are separate in mandate: the General Radio and Television Authority is responsible for radio and television programme and news production, while the Sudanese Radio and Television Broadcasting Corporation oversees broadcast engineering, transmission, coverage, and network expansion. He stated that losses limited to equipment and machinery—excluding buildings—amounted to €9,968,300 for the General Radio and Television Authority and $16,275,000 for the Sudanese Radio and Television Broadcasting Corporation. He noted that the most severe damage occurred at the terrestrial broadcast station in Al-Fiteihab area of Omdurman.Al-Eisir added that these estimates were produced by a specialized engineering and administrative committee formed by the General Radio and Television Authority after its premises were liberated on March 12, 2024. The committee was tasked with inspecting and cataloguing damaged equipment, machinery, and war remnants following deliberate acts of destruction targeting the two institutions.BH/BH
