Geneva, Feb. 5, 2026 (SUNA) – Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris held intensive meetings in Geneva, including an extended session at midday with Secretary-General of the World Council of Churches, Professor Rev. Jerry Pillay, and his senior aides.During the meeting, the Prime Minister presented a detailed account of the systematic targeting of infrastructure, civilian facilities, and churches by the rebel militia, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). In this context, he referred to his field visits and direct inspections of the destruction and looting inflicted on churches by the rebel militia, describing them as flagrant violations of religious sanctity and the inviolability of places of worship. He also expressed reassurance regarding the conditions of Christians in the country, describing them as among the strongest supporting components of the Government of Hope. The Prime Minister handed the Secretary-General a written copy of the Government of Sudan Peace Initiative and provided a detailed briefing on its content, objectives, and top priorities. He called on the World Council of Churches to support the initiative in line with its core principles of backing global peace initiatives, promoting religious tolerance, social peace, and interfaith solidarity to achieve peace on earth as a shared value. He also pointed to the Council’s past role in supporting and advancing similar initiatives and agreements, reaffirming the Government of Hope’s commitment to further strengthening its care and attention for Christians and other religious communities in Sudan.BH/BH
