Finance State Minister Meets UN 1591 Sanctions Panel, Affirms Compliance

Port Sudan, Feb. 6, 2026 (SUNA) – State Minister of Finance Mohamed Noor Abdel-Daem met with the UN Security Council Panel of Experts mandated to monitor the implementation of Resolution 1591, welcoming continued coordination and institutional engagement. He reaffirmed the State’s and the Ministry of Finance’s full commitment to complying with the provisions of Security Council Resolution 1591.The State Minister called on the Panel to ensure accuracy, objectivity, and full professional standards in preparing its report on implementation outcomes. He stressed the need for all relevant bodies to activate enforcement mechanisms, including the Panel of Experts’ responsibility to submit recommendations on sanctions against financial support and funding networks, and to facilitate safe and secure humanitarian corridors for aid delivery.He further affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing essential support, including food and shelter, and addressing the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Darfur. He also confirmed the enforcement of asset freezes and the blocking of accounts belonging to designated entities under the sanctions regime.The State Minister urged the UN Security Council to extend the necessary technical and institutional support to the Ministry of Finance to enable it to fully discharge its obligations.BH/BH
