Geneva, February 6, 2026 (SUNA) – The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom, praised the efforts of the Sudanese government “in delivering health services and controlling the outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, measles, and polio, despite the ongoing challenges.”Dr. Adhanom wrote, following the visit of Prime Minister, Professor Kamil Idris, to WHO headquarters in Geneva, expressing his appreciation for the visit and the meetings held between the two sides. The discussions addressed Sudan’s Peace Initiative, presented by the Prime Minister during the UN Security Council session on Sudan, which received regional and international support and recognition. The UN official stated on his X account that the Prime Minister’s peace initiative is crucial for ending violence, protecting civilians, and maintaining peace and security.He added, “I commend the government’s efforts in providing health services and controlling the outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, measles, and polio, despite the prevailing challenges.” Dr. Adhanom also noted that he discussed with the Prime Minister ways to ensure the delivery of aid, the protection of healthcare workers, patients, health facilities, and assets, as well as the reconstruction of the health system.He affirmed that “WHO is fully prepared to support Sudan to ensure the continued provision of health services across the country.”BH/BH
