Djibouti, Feb. 8, 2026 (SUNA) – The Republic of Djibouti, in its capacity as the current chair of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), issued a statement today, Sunday, expressing its warm welcome to the decision to reinstate the Republic of Sudan as a member of the organization after a period of suspension. The reinstatement was formalized through an official letter from the Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to the IGAD Executive Secretary.The statement affirmed Djibouti’s full support for Sudan’s return, emphasizing the pivotal role Sudan plays as a founding and active member of IGAD, given its political, geographical, and regional significance, as well as its historic contributions to regional stability, development, and integration efforts.Djibouti described the decision as a significant step toward strengthening regional cohesion and reinforcing collective action among member states.
