Geneva, 9 Feb 2026 (SUNA) – Sudan’s Permanent Representative in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid, today addressed a briefing by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on his recent visit to the country, including meetings with government officials and survivors of Al-Fashir massacres. At the outset of his statement, the Permanent Representative emphasized that Sudan’s government’s commitment to facilitating the visit reflects its steadfast cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and other human rights mechanisms operating in the country, including the country office and the designated expert on the human rights situation in Sudan. He outlined examples of the horrific crimes committed by the rebel militia, citing survivors’ testimonies regarding Al-Fashir massacres. He also addressed the militia’s recent attacks on a World Food Programme humanitarian convoy and on internally displaced persons (IDPs), which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries.Responding to the High Commissioner’s mention of expanding the arms embargo, the Permanent Representative stated that the Commissioner should call on the UN Security Council to hold accountable the state sponsoring the militia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for violating UNSC Resolution 1591 by providing ongoing support to the rebel militia in Darfur, instead of appearing to adopt the demands of the militia and anti-Sudan circles.Replying to the UAE delegate’s claim that his country had announced humanitarian aid contributions to Sudan, the Permanent Representative strongly denounced the statement. Addressing the UAE delegate directly, he said:”What kind of donation or humanitarian pledge are you referring to? Do you think that merely announcing financial commitments will wash away the shame of your involvement in supporting a militia with this dark record of terrorism? Do you think so? Keep your money—the Sudanese people are nobler and more honourable than to be fed by the hands that kill them day and night and destroy their infrastructure!”He continued:”And how do you speak of your alleged condemnation of the heinous attack on the WFP convoy? How? When you are supplying the militia with strategic drones used to target these movements and destroy Sudan’s infrastructure?”The Permanent Representative concluded his remarks by asserting:”Attempts to cloak your actions under the guise of humanitarian work are merely desperate efforts that will not succeed in hiding your involvement and the heinous crimes you have committed against Sudan and its good-hearted people.”BH/BH
