Amman, Feb. 10 (Petra) — Jordan has secured full UAE financing for a 25-megawatt wind power project in Ma’an after the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources signed a cooperation agreement with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) to develop the facility in the Batn Al-Ghul area.
The agreement was signed by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Al-Kharabsheh and Masdar’s Director of Strategic and Special Projects Ali Abdullah Al-Shimmari.
The project, which will be fully funded by the United Arab Emirates, involves the installation of five wind turbines with a combined capacity of 25 MW and forms part of Jordan’s strategy to expand renewable generation and meet growing electricity demand.
Al-Kharabsheh said the agreement reflects the depth of Jordanian–Emirati cooperation in the energy sector and supports the government’s focus on diversifying energy sources and increasing the share of renewables in the national energy mix.
Under the agreement, Masdar will provide technical oversight, supervise implementation, manage logistics and shipping, and submit progress reports throughout the project’s execution. Jordan’s Samra Electric Power Generation Company will contract an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, to be selected by Masdar, to carry out project works.
Samra will also be responsible for operating and maintaining the facility, either directly or through contracted service providers, with the option to engage Masdar or its subsidiaries for operations and maintenance, subject to Samra’s discretion.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will secure the land required for the project and complete all regulatory approvals and permits to ensure timely implementation.
Officials said the project strengthens Jordan’s renewable energy pipeline, supports long-term energy security, and underscores the role of regional partnerships in financing clean-energy infrastructure.
