Muscat, 16 Feb 2026 (ONA) — The
Ministry of Economy is organizing a two-day workshop titled “Capacity Building
in the Governorates Competitiveness Index”. The event forms part of the Ministry’s
efforts to foster a culture of knowledge-based competitiveness and support balanced
development in the Sultanate of Oman.
The workshop is held under the
auspices of Dr. Nasser Rashid Al Maawali, Undersecretary
of the Ministry of Economy. It will review the conceptual and methodological
framework of the index, which focuses on four main elements: “people and
society”, “economy and development”, “sustainable environment” and “governance
and institutional performance”.
The workshop discusses ways to
utilize the index results in planning and policy making.
The workshop is in line with Oman
Vision 2040 and the objectives of the 11th Five-Year Development
Plan (2026–2030), which lays emphasis on the development of the governorates as
a key pillar for promoting economic diversification, decentralization and optimizing
the use of comparative advantages of each governorate.
The workshop seeks to enhance the
principles of transparency and accountability and enable work teams in the
governorates to conduct in-depth analytical perusal of results, besides establishing
a stage of building common knowledge that paves the way for the phase of practical
application of the outcomes of the index.
