TSC Member Dr. Nuwara Calls for Unity in Eastern Sudan, Cites Efforts to Resolve Red Sea Water Crisis

Port Sudan, March 13, 2026 (SUNA) – Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Dr. Nuwara Abu Mohamed Tahir, emphasized the need to organize youth in eastern Sudan, reject hate speech, and exercise wisdom and self-restraint even in times of disagreement.Speaking at the annual iftar of the Eastern Sudan Youth Forces Movement in Port Sudan, she said that the region’s long-standing history and deeply rooted customary laws encourage solidarity and coexistence, describing “hate speech” as a term that is strange to the centuries-old heritage of the people of eastern Sudan. She added that opportunities still exist to advance the region through joint efforts between leadership and grassroots communities.Dr. Nuwara noted that eastern Sudan has already secured its share of federal ministerial positions, while efforts continue to obtain further representation through “positive discrimination” for qualified professionals from the region in posts such as state ministers, commissioners, and ambassadors.She also confirmed the government’s serious efforts to address the water crisis in Red Sea State, noting that meetings have been held with officials and advisors in the sector. Dr. Nuwara acknowledged shortcomings in water and electricity services over the past three years in eastern Sudan, particularly in the Red Sea State.The TSC member called for rallying around leadership, institutions, and local administrations to ensure the provision of essential services such as water and electricity. She praised the role of the Intelligence Service in constructing the “Fourth Reservoir” following the collapse of the Arba’at Dam and revealed that African Development Fund has allocated $10 million for water projects, urging the state government to move forward with implementation. She affirmed her direct oversight of conditions across the eastern region, confirming personal intervention to resolve regional issues.For his part, Head of the Youth Forces Movement, Heikal Mohamed Dablob, stated that the movement seeks to extract lessons from past experiences to serve the people of eastern Sudan. He highlighted initiatives aimed at community security through consultations with all community leaders in the region. He added that the upcoming phase should be managed with a new, more positive vision, noting that the movement is proposing a youth conference project to promote unity and stability among the people of eastern Sudan.BH/BH
