New York, March 23 (QNA) – The United Nations Security Council is set to convene on Tuesday for its regular session on “The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question,” with a particular focus on settlement activity.

Council members are expected to receive two briefings. The first will be delivered by Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Ramiz Alakbarov, while the second will come from Director of the Gaza Board of Peace, Nickolay Mladenov.

Alakbarov will present the quarterly update on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2334, adopted in December 2016, which calls on Israel to halt all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

Mladenov is expected to brief members on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803, which endorsed a plan proposed by US President Donald Trump aimed at ending the war in Gaza.

The session comes amid continued international attention on developments in the region and ongoing diplomatic efforts to address the conflict. (QNA)
