Sudanese and Egyptian Education Ministers Discuss Cooperation in Education Sector

Cairo, March 24, 2026 (SUNA) – Minister of Education National Upbringing, Dr. Al-Tohami Al-Zein Hajar, met in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart, Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the education sector.The talks focused on enhancing collaboration—particularly in technical education—as well as addressing the status of Sudanese schools in Egypt and exploring ways to regulate and develop them.Dr. Hajar expressed Sudan’s appreciation for the strong historical and fraternal ties between the two countries, extending his gratitude to the Egyptian leadership, government, and people for their continued support to Sudanese citizens. He highlighted Egypt’s role in hosting Sudanese students and providing a suitable environment for them to continue their education.The minister also noted Sudan’s interest in benefiting from Egypt’s experience in advancing technical education, including its international partnerships such as cooperation with Japan. He reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to implementing education reform plans developed under the auspices of UNESCO to improve the quality of education.For his part, the Egyptian minister stated that Egypt has made significant progress in reforming its education sector by modernizing curricula in line with European standards and aligning them with labor market needs. He emphasized the potential for expanding cooperation with Sudan through knowledge exchange and the adoption of successful educational models.Both sides agreed to propose the formation of a joint technical committee to explore areas of cooperation, develop implementation mechanisms, and monitor progress to ensure timely and tangible results.The meeting also addressed the current situation of Sudanese schools in Egypt and ways to enhance and formalize their operations to better serve Sudanese students.BH/BH
