Baghdad, March 25 (QNA) – Iraq has summoned US charge d’affaires in Baghdad and delivered a formal protest following a deadly attack on a military clinic, west of the capital Baghdad.
The attack on the Al Habbaniya Clinic, a facility affiliated with the country’s armed force in Anbar province, took place early on Wednesday and left at least 20 Iraqi soldiers dead or wounded, according to Iraqi News Agency.
Sabah Al Nu’man, spokesperson for Iraq’s Commander-in-Chief, said despite ongoing political and diplomatic efforts to keep Iraq out of regional conflicts, attacks against Iraqi military units have continued. He described Wednesday’s strike on the Ministry of Defense facility as a “fully-fledged crime” that violates international law and harms Iraq–US relations.
Al Nu’man added that the Iraqi government and armed forces reserve the right to respond by all means permitted under the UN Charter, and warned that such attacks hinder sustainable stability in the region.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ Al Sudani has directed the Foreign Ministry to file a detailed complaint with the UN Security Council and other international bodies, reaffirming Iraq’s sovereignty and condemning the “irresponsible acts” that caused the casualties. (QNA)
