Dongola, March 31, 2026 (SUNA) — During his chairing of the joint meeting of the Northern State Council of Ministers and the State Security Committee on Tuesday, Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris conveyed the greetings of the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, to the government and people of the Northern State. He also paid tribute to the martyrs of the “Battle of Dignity,” affirming that their sacrifices constitute a source of strength and blessing for the nation.The meeting, held at the State Government Secretariat, was attended by the Wali of the Northern State, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Abdulhamid, and members of his administration.The Prime Minister affirmed that the Northern State holds a promising future within Sudan’s national investment landscape. He directed the formation of a joint working committee between the Federal Council of Ministers and the Northern State to review sectoral reports and address the state’s various challenges.He stressed that voluntary return and national sovereignty are intrinsically linked, noting that the visit places particular emphasis on macro-level policies governing voluntary return. He further indicated that the Northern State is poised to play a leading role in this regard, given its strategic geographic position, and expressed confidence that 2026 will mark a year of peace, reconstruction, and investment.The Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation received detailed briefings on the state’s security, economic, social, and health conditions. The meeting reviewed the state government’s efforts in implementing development projects, ensuring the success of the harvest season, accommodating large numbers of displaced persons, and receiving returning citizens under voluntary return programs.Participants underscored the need to remove impediments facing the state government, particularly in the areas of energy, infrastructure, land, and investment.BH/BH
