Khartoum, April 2, 2026 (SUNA) – The Wali (Governor) of Khartoum State, Ahmed Othman Hamza, affirmed that the reopening of the UN House and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Khartoum marks a significant step, reflecting the resumption of UN institutions and agencies’ activities from their offices in the capital following the war period.Speaking at the reopening ceremony, the Wali noted that this development reflects the international community’s confidence in Sudan and its support for the country’s recovery and reconstruction efforts.He welcomed the UNDP Associate Administrator and his accompanying delegation, as well as the UN Resident Representative in Sudan, expressing the State Government’s appreciation for the assistance provided by UN agencies to the Sudanese people during the war, particularly humanitarian aid delivered to those affected in Khartoum State. The Wali highlighted that UN agencies continued to provide support from Port Sudan throughout the conflict and conducted several field visits to the state to monitor conditions and rehabilitation operations. He emphasized that the reopening of the office today, Thursday, marks the beginning of a new phase of joint work to support reconstruction and development efforts.He further pointed out that Khartoum State is witnessing a tangible start to the reconstruction phase, under the federal government’s program led by the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, alongside the Government of Hope, headed by Dr. Kamil Idris, which has relocated to Khartoum to carry out its operations.Wali Hamza added that the reopening of the UN House at this time sends a clear message to the international community: despite the challenges posed by the war in some regions, Sudan remains present on the global stage and is committed to strengthening international partnerships to support stability and development.BH/BH
