Khartoum, April 6, 2026 (SUNA) – The Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) announced the results of its 2026 Ramadan humanitarian program supporting war-affected populations. With a total budget of $1.25 million, the initiative delivered cross-border assistance in Sudan, Chad, and Uganda, providing a lifeline to hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees. According to the final report, more than 712,000 individuals received daily iftar meals, while over 16,544 vulnerable people benefited from comprehensive food baskets. Operations in Sudan covered nine states, including Khartoum, Darfur, Kordofan, White Nile, Kassala, and Al-Gadarif, using a dual model combining community kitchens and food distribution. The program also reached refugees in Chad and Uganda, with a focus on persons with disabilities and survivors of violence. SAPA emphasized that success was driven by close coordination with local authorities and partners, prioritizing women-headed households, children, and the elderly, while warning that humanitarian needs continue to rise amid ongoing displacement.BH/BH
