Noticeable Increase in Sorghum and Sesame Prices in Al-Gadarif Markets

Al-Gadarif, 7-4-2026 (SUNA) – The Al-Gadarif Crop Markets Department received large quantities of agricultural produce on Monday, including 17,667 sacks of sorghum, 1,285 sacks of millet, 5,598 sacks of watermelon seeds, 3,878 sacks of sesame, and 400 sacks of sunflower seeds. SUNA correspondents reported a significant rise in sorghum prices due to supply and demand, alongside increases in sesame, millet, and watermelon seeds.Sorghum prices rose sharply, with the ardeb (a traditional grain measure in Sudan, roughly equivalent to 90–100 kilograms and locally considered about two sacks) of locally classified varieties—Al-Dabar, Fetarita, Al-Akar, Al-Mugud, Wad Bako, and Hiraray—ranging between 200,000 and 260,000 Sudanese pounds, depending on quality and demand. Current prices per unit:Sorghum: Ardeb Al-Dabar (260,000 SDG), Fetarita (230,000 SDG), Al-Akar (222,000 SDG), Al-Mugud (200,000 SDG), Wad Bako (220,000 SDG), Hiraray (200,000 SDG) Sesame: 210,000 SDG per quintal Watermelon seeds: 2,300,000 SDG per ton Sunflower seeds: 1,600,000 SDG per ton BH/BH
