Port Sudan, 7-4-2026 (SUNA) – The Red Sea State Anti-Smuggling Unit achieved a major security success by seizing a cache of weapons and ammunition in a targeted operation, demonstrating the readiness of forces to combat all forms of smuggling and organized crime. The seizure was observed on Tuesday morning by the Red Sea State Wali (Governor), Lt. Gen. Mustafa Mohamed Noor, alongside the Deputy Director-General of Customs for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Maj. Gen. Babiker Yousif Babiker, senior deputies, directorate directors, and state security committee members. The Wali praised the operation, commending the Customs forces for protecting the country from the dangers of arms smuggling and affirming government support for all security agencies to fulfill their duties effectively. The Director-General of Customs, Lt. Gen. Salah Ahmed Ibrahim, stated that the operation aligns with strategic plans to enhance security and combat all forms of smuggling. Customs Deputy for Anti-Smuggling, Brig. Gen. Amir Zain Al-Abideen Omar, confirmed the ongoing efforts to intensify field operations to prevent smuggling of weapons and hazardous materials, safeguarding national security and stability. According to Director of Anti-Smuggling in Red Sea State, Brig. Gen. Gad Al-Karim Ahmed Al-Fadl, authorities seized 34 advanced silenced Kalashnikov rifles, 11 pistols, 5 sniper rifles with a 9 km effective range, significant ammunition, 2 vehicles, and arrested two foreign nationals, with legal measures taken against them.BH/BH
