Amman, April 14 (Petra) — Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman called on Tuesday for a unified effort between the government and civil society to protect natural sites as the kingdom enters its peak spring excursion season.
During a meeting with environmental activists and social media influencers, Suleiman emphasized the critical role of public figures in fostering environmental literacy and discouraging littering in forests and archaeological parks.
The discussion, attended by the Ministry’s Secretary-General, Omar Arabiat, focused on integrating grassroots initiatives into the National Cleanliness Strategy’s executive program. Participants explored new communication methods to promote positive social behavior and preserve Jordan’s natural landscapes and cultural heritage.
“The success of our national strategy depends on active partnerships with local communities and dedicated activists who can translate environmental policies into everyday practice,” Suleiman said.
Environmentalists at the meeting praised the ministry’s responsiveness to community-led ideas, noting that the timing of the partnership is essential as public turnout at natural reserves and recreational areas increases. The group discussed practical steps to enhance field presence and digital outreach to ensure the kingdom’s “civilized image” is maintained through cleaner public spaces.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to providing logistical support for volunteer-led clean-up campaigns and awareness initiatives, framing the cooperation as a vital pillar of the government’s broader economic and environmental modernization goals.
