Brussels, April 20 (QNA) – Jordan’s foreign minister, Ayman Safadi, met Sunday with his Norwegian counterpart, Espen Barth Eide, to discuss the latest developments in the region, foremost among them the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.

The meeting took place in Brussels on the sidelines of a session of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee, which coordinates international aid to the Palestinian people. The committee is chaired by Norway and hosted by the European Union.

Safadi stressed the importance of the meeting in mobilizing support for the Palestinian economy, which has come under significant pressure due to Israel’s refusal to transfer to the Palestinian Authority its share of customs clearance revenues.

Jordan’s foreign minister warned of the catastrophic consequences of the continued Israeli occupation’s illegal measures in the occupied West Bank, which undermine all prospects for achieving a just peace.

He praised Norway’s positions and efforts to achieve a just peace based on a two-state solution, noting the important role played by Saudi Arabia in organizing last year’s ministerial meeting of the International Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution and in rallying international support for it.

The two sides also discussed prospects for restoring sustainable regional calm following the agreement on a cease-fire between the United States and Iran, in addition to reviewing the situation in Lebanon after a cease-fire was reached and efforts to ensure its implementation. (QNA)
