Geneva, May 17, 2026 (SUNA) – Federal Health Minister Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim held talks with UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Ted Chaiban on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva. The meeting reviewed developments in Sudan’s health situation, the institutional recovery process of the health sector, and joint programmes in malaria control, immunization, and medical supply chains, as well as prospects for strengthening support to primary healthcare centres. The two sides also discussed the National Health Recovery Plan 2026–2030 and the possibility of establishing a joint action plan between the Federal Ministry of Health and UNICEF, similar to the existing framework with the World Health Organization (WHO). For his part, the UNICEF Deputy Executive Director commended Sudan’s efforts to rehabilitate the health system and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continuing support for Sudan in malaria control and immunization programmes, alongside coordination with international partners to advance the health recovery process.BH/BH
