Sudan Highlights Efforts to Prevent Crime and Strengthen Criminal Justice at Vienna Meetings

VIENNA, June 4, 2026 (SUNA) – Sudan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna organized a side event on the sidelines of the 35th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice under the title: “Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in the Context of Crises: Sudan’s Experience.” The event featured Ambassador Magdi Ahmed Mofadal, Senior Prosecutor Al-Moez Taha Ahmed Abdullah, Brigadier (Police) Hassan Mahjoub, and Kristina Albertin, Regional Representative for the Middle East and North Africa at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Speakers reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to combating crime and strengthening criminal justice, highlighting efforts to restore law enforcement and justice institutions in liberated areas, including the recovery of criminal databases and the reactivation of police stations, courts, prosecution offices, and correctional institutions. Ambassador Magdi Ahmed Mofadal also reviewed the regional and international repercussions of the rebellion, including the spread of weapons, the use of mercenaries, and the rise in human trafficking and migrant smuggling crimes, warning of their impact on regional and international security and stability. For her part, Kristina Albertin reaffirmed the readiness of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to support Sudan in rebuilding crime prevention and criminal justice institutions and to cooperate with regional and international partners in identifying and responding to urgent needs.BH/BH
