PORT SUDAN, June 7, 2026 (SUNA) — The Director General of the Customs Forces, Lieutenant General (Police) Salah Ahmed Ibrahim, has ordered the expedited maintenance and rehabilitation of facilities at the Port Sudan International Airport Customs Directorate. During an inspection tour of the airport on Sunday, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim emphasized that upgrading infrastructure and the workplace environment is vital to boosting customs performance and streamlining the movement of passengers and cargo. After reviewing directorial workflows and receiving a briefing on current operational challenges, he commended customs personnel for their dedication under challenging circumstances. Lt. Gen. Ibrahim reaffirmed Headquarters’ commitment to eliminating bureaucratic bottlenecks and accelerating transactions to keep pace with rising traffic. He stressed the need for tighter inter-agency coordination, heightened vigilance, and advanced field and electronic surveillance systems integrated with relevant authorities. In parallel, Head of the Red Sea Customs General Directorate, Major General (Police) Majdi Madani Al-Sheikh, confirmed that the airport’s electronic surveillance network is being expanded. The project will add comprehensive camera coverage linked across all gates, terminals, lounges, and the tarmac.   The Director General’s field inspection concluded with a review of the arrival and departure halls, the tarmac, X-ray scanning equipment, facility expansions, and the newly integrated customs surveillance system.BH/BH
