Al-Mansouri: Fisheries Sector Contributes to Socia-Economic Development

 KHARTOUM, June 9, 2026 (SUNA) — The Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Professor Ahmed Al-Tijani Al-Mansouri, affirmed that the fisheries sector is one of the most vital productive sectors contributing to economic, social, and environmental development. This came during his inspection tour on Tuesday of several units under the ministry in Khartoum, where he met with workers at the Fisheries Training Center and the General Directorate of Animal Resources Research in Al-Shajara area, in the presence of the Ministry’s Undersecretary, Dr. Ammar Al-Sheikh Idris. The Minister pledged to resolve the problems hindering work flow and assessed the conditions of the employees. In a press statement, the Minister stated that the fisheries sector plays a major role in providing food security, generating employment opportunities, and increasing national income, pointing out that Sudan possesses diverse water resources encompassing seas, rivers, and lakes. Al-Mansouri explained that expanding aquaculture contributes to increasing production and meeting the rising demand for this food commodity. It also stimulates the feed, boat, and fishing equipment industries, in addition to providing livelihoods for the population, helping improve their living conditions, alleviating poverty, and fostering sustainable development.BH/BH
